Hello Lincoln Families,

      The NWEA testing for math will begin Tuesday, January 24th. Testing will be in the mornings, starting at about 10:00. Please schedule appointments after 1:00.  Keep in mind testing may take 2-3 days. It varies for each student. Thank you for your understanding! Also, they can have gum or hard candy!

Music Program

From Ms. Mileham, the music teacher: The 4th-grade performance will be on February 1st in the evening. Make sure to ask your child for the note if you have not yet received it. They are asked to wear red, white, and blue on the day of the performance since the theme is America. Hope to see you there!

Spring Conferences:

Spring conferences are on an as-needed basis. I will email all parents, notifying them either way! My conference schedule doesn’t begin until the week of February 20th. Currently, all students are working on their student-led conference slides and goals and will present them at home if they don’t have a conference. 


Kindness Party:

Our class Valentine's Day Party will be on 2/14 at 2:00. Students are allowed to bring valentine cards, but they need to bring them for all 26 students. Here is a list of class names. Please don't send any candy attached to the cards, as some kids cannot eat that candy. Our Kindness committee will send in snack items. Thank you!

Reading:  The reading strategy focus will be "In the book & In my head". This strategy will help students use text evidence and background knowledge or "schema" to make a reasonable inference in reading. Using the data from the Fountas & Pinnell reading assessments, NWEA, and conferring conferences, we are working on what reading strategies and goals each student needs. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". These mini-lessons are used as a  focus for many reading strategies. It's possible to use more than one reading strategy at a time. These strategies cover comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary.

Writing:  We are continuing to work on the persuasive writing drafts. 

Math: Unit 4: 23 lessons. Students read, write, and compare numbers in decimal notation. They also extend place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers and add and subtract within 1,000,000. We will take the Unit 4 test this week and then begin Unit 5 Multiplicative Comparison and Measurement.

Snacks in the Classroom

Please ensure that everyday snacks are quick and easy for your child to handle. For example please no yogurt, pudding, uncut fruit, or messy items for daily snacks. This avoids spilling on our school devices, furniture, etc. These snacks work better in the lunchroom. Thank you for your understanding. 

Birthdays

We love to celebrate birthdays! For students who would like to celebrate their birthdays in our class please bring in non-food items for example instead of cupcakes maybe pencils. Sometimes parents put together little gift bags. These are just ideas. There is no obligation to send anything!

doors to monitor the hallway and greet students as they enter the room

Late start days are just one hour later for all morning procedures.

Half-day dismissal is at 12:09 p.m.


Shuttle riders should head outside at 3:30 on full days and 11:55 on half days.

  Hello Lincoln Families, Tomorrow is Field Day! Field Day will begin at 12:30 for the 4th grade and ends at 2:50. It is supposed to be a little cooler tomorrow. I encourage you to make sure your child has a water bottle and wears comfortable clothing for all physical activities. If your child could bring a beach towel or small blanket because we are eating outside. Lunch  will be hot dogs, chips, and fruit which is provided by PTO.  I was not called for jury duty tomorrow and am so glad I get to go! As we are wrapping up our school year, I would to take a moment to thank all of you for the support you have given to our classroom and me. It has been an outstanding year of growth in academic learning and social-emotional goals. Thank you for the many class donations, and volunteering!   Hello Lincoln Families! This last week was about celebrating the success of each student’s individual learning goals, especially in the areas of math, reading, and writing! Our class began their 4th-grade journey by setting their individual learning goals and communicating them at their student-led conferences. Since then, they all have been working by practicing at school, and at home. It seemed only fitting that we celebrate with the movie, Because of Winn Dixie and a Read-In! It was a fabulous way to recognize the hard work of all of our students. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the party to help make our class celebrations a success!   Chrome book reminder: This is a friendly reminder that if your child is taking home a CB then it needs to be charged and brought back to school the next day.   Hello Lincoln Families, A permission slip for your child to attend the health program at Lincoln was sent home last week.   The form is due by Monday. We want you to know that the 4th/5th-grade content is together on this form. The 4th-grade program does not cover HIV/Aids. There is also an error on the form, and the program is in the morning, not the afternoon. If you do not want your child to attend, there will be a place for him/her to go during the program. The presentation slides can be viewed ahead of time in the office, and they will address any questions. Thank you! Report cards will go home this week! This is an opportunity to continue the discussion with your child from the student-led conference.
