Hello Lincoln Families,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone got some relaxation over our break. I want to thank all the families and the committee who sent in the amazing treats for our winter party! The food and party items were perfect. Mrs. Kovnat (Eli K's mom) gave a wonderful presentation on the history of their family holiday tradition. Thank you for the games and delicious donuts! We had so much fun!!

During the first week back, we will focus on reviewing classroom protocols and making sure everyone is reading their "good fit" book at home and school! The NWEA testing period will be from January 17-27. Our class will begin reading testing Wednesday, January 18th since we don't have school on January 16th. The math test will begin Tuesday, January 24th. I try not to schedule testing on the first day of the week. If at all possible, please schedule appointments after 1:00. Testing will be in the mornings. Keep in mind testing may take 2-3 days. It varies for each student. Thank you for your understanding! Have a fabulous week!

Reading:  The reading strategy focus will be "In the book & In my head". This strategy will help students use text evidence and background knowledge or "schema" to make a reasonable inference in reading. Using the data from the Fountas & Pinnell reading assessments, NWEA, and conferring conferences, we are working on what reading strategies and goals each student needs. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". These mini-lessons are used as a  focus for many reading strategies. It's possible to use more than one reading strategy at a time. These strategies cover comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary.

Writing:  We are continuing to work on the persuasive writing drafts.

Math: Unit 4: 23 lessons. Students read, write, and compare numbers in decimal notation. They also extend place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers and add and subtract within 1,000,000.

Snacks in the Classroom

Please make sure that everyday snacks are quick and easy for your child to handle. For example please no yogurt, pudding, uncut fruit, or messy items for everyday snacks. This avoids spilling on our school devices, furniture, etc. These snacks work better in the lunchroom. Thank you for your understanding.

Birthdays

We love to celebrate birthdays! For students who would like to celebrate their birthdays in our class please bring in non-food items for example instead of cupcakes maybe pencils. Sometimes parents put together little gift bags. These are just ideas. There is no obligation to send anything!
